If you want clear, beautiful skin try tea tree oil.
If you suffer from acne, then you know how frustrating it can be to achieve clear, pimple-free skin. You’ve probably tried every type of acne product on the market and found them to be unsatisfactory – not to mention expensive! A lot of skin care lotions and creams contain harsh chemicals, so they work on your acne for a short time but over a longer period of time the chemicals will dry out your skin, leaving you prone to more acne attacks.
Why is tea tree oil good for your face?
Tea tree oil is an all-natural remedy to help rid your skin of problem acne. There have been many studies to confirm its effectiveness, making it the ideal product for your sensitive acne-prone face. Tea tree oil will typically take longer to work initially, but there are usually fewer side effects compared with over-the-counter acne treatments.
Before using tea tree oil you should first test if your face is sensitive to it. You can do this by applying a couple of drops of the oil to the inside of your forearm using a cotton swab. After two hours if you have not experienced any burning, irritation or rash then you can most likely try a facial treatment.
If you suffer from an irritation due to the tea tree oil you may want to use it in a diluted form: 5 drops of tea tree oil mixed with 5 drops of water (50:50 solution). Keep retesting for sensitivity until you find a dilution ratio that works best for your skin.
Using tea tree oil in your face cleanser
Here’s a simple recipe for making your own face cleanser using tea tree oil:-
Ingredients
20ml aloe vera gel
10ml extra virgin olive oil
30 drops tea tree oil
Pour the aloe vera gel and olive oil into a bowl and whisk until a white gel is produced.
Add the tea tree oil and whisk again.
You can store this in a small plastic bottle - this recipe should make enough for 2-3 applications.
To use, simply apply with a cotton wooll ball and then rinse thoroughly to remove. Your skin will feel very refreshed due to the cooling effects of both the aloe vera and tea tree oil.
How to use tea tree oil on your face
There are many ways you can use tea tree oil to help cleanse your face, here are just a couple:-
Steam facial
A steam facial will help open your pores and remove any dirt build-up and bacteria on your face.
Add 3 drops of tea tree essential oil and 3 drops of lemon essential oil to a bowl of steaming hot water. Lean over the bowl of water with a towel draped over the back of your head and let the steam penetrate your skin for approx. 5-8 minutes.
This facial steam will also work to clear your sinuses during cold/flu season.
Face mask
To help treat oily skin, add 3 drops of tea tree oil to 2 tablespoons of live yogurt (or a paste made of oatmeal and water). Apply this mask to your face and leave for approx. 8-10 minutes. To remove simply wash your face with warm water.
Make your own tea tree oil face wash
You can make your own all-natural face wash to help fight off acne - here’s how:-
Ingredients
3 tablespoons jojoba oil
7 drops lavender essential oil
8 drops tea tree oil
3 drops geranium oil
Pour all ingredients into a small plastic bottle and shake well to combine. For best results rinse your face first, then apply the face wash all over. Rinse again. Always remember to shake the bottle before each application as the contents will settle.
Use your tea tree oil facewash twice a day - once in the morning and once at night before bed. This facewash works best if your skin has been steamed first (see our recipe for facial steam above) or after a hot shower.
